Counting Down the Days…..
It won't be long now…the children are glowing with angelic
smiles, the twinkling lights are everywhere… and we
are creating our last minute designs while watching
to see what is the current most sought-after hits with
our candle customers.
We taught classes at
a Museum in Northern Ohio during Thanksgiving weekend,
and having just finished a two-day local show, we can
easily say that the GLOW pigments are by far THE biggest
hits, and fortunately it isn't too late if you haven't
yet incorporated these pigments into your candles and
soaps.
The children
and adults alike both beamed when they saw the bright
glow as the candles and soaps lit up in the dark… thus
adding another 'feature' and bit of uniqueness, in addition
to the awesome scents.

The glow pigments
are mixed into the clear gel in liquid, semi- cooled/thickened
stage. You then use this 'concentrate' to embed chunks
of glow gel and overpour clear gel.
The color is
energized by the daylight and lights up at night.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The
RED GLOW is the brightest. ( We also made soaps which
had toys embedded and a layer of the red glow soap in
the background…thus the kids would have a (soap) nightlight
in the bathroom at night.
Our
Momma and Baby Red Beta Fish, with base of red glow
gel, were very popular with young and old.
The
sea creatures were also very popular. Everyone liked
the crabs… Remember to embed 1" chunks of gel and overpour
liquid. The chunks of gel speed up the set and hold
your embeds in place. Pull them close to the glass surface
for best visibility.
Ever
wondered how Rudolph was 'born'? Here is our 'rendition
candle' showing the magical creation. Always keep your
creativity alive when you are searching for unique glassware
and how to use it in your candle designs. We simply
filled the oyster cup with clear gel and embedded our
glass Rudolph…naming the candle "The Birthing of Rudolph"
and scented with our newest Jolly Ginger Spice scent.
And Remember…. Simple Elegance will never go out of
style….
Simply
embed chunks of clear gel, sprinkle with Celestial Gold
glitter and overpour scented clear gel. You will create
a gold metallic diamond cut that is simple gorgeous…
and once again, 'goof-proof'. As our final design this
month, we want to Wish you, your loved ones, and friends
… the Happiest of Holidays and a most Prosperous and
Blessed NEW YEAR 2004.
Wick
Reminders
We recommend that you
use only ZINC core wicks--you need the added heat from
the metal core for sufficient temperature to burn the
gel well... a 50s series for up to 3" opening and
60s series for 3.5 and higher, when you don't go to
three 50s.
The biggest mistake we
encounter: you should trim the wick to 1/4" for
the initial burn, say first half hour. This is the time
that the wick actually 'seats' itself into the candle.
After that, to avoid smoking, trim the wick back to
just a bare 'nub' meaning 1/16th of an inch. When a
seated gel candle wick smokes.. 95% of the time, it
is because it has too much length. People are used to
the height of a wick in paraffin candles which is too
much for gel candles. When you extinguish.. teach customers
to do a little wick maintenance.. use toothpick to remove
any wick droppings. Keep the wick at
the nub height to avoid excessive mushrooming.
This should help you
immensely.
